Slime HD Portable Air Compressor Review

A Portable Air Compressor is a necessity if you spend much time hunting, camping, ATV ridding, or taking road trips off road. Many of these units are available and they are like fishing lures that catch more fishermen than fish.

We have tried several portable air compressors over the years and most of the inexpensive ones are junk and do not work well enough to air up an air mattress.

Even if you spend $40 to $60 dollars for a unit, they can still be junk for airing up a truck tire. Who wants to spend over an hour to get back on the road? And that is if the unit even can last that long.

So, we decided to begin a whole series of tests and reviews on Vehicle Accessories. The portable air compressor is one of these reviews. We have spent hundreds of dollars on compressors over the years and want to share some of our experiences.

A good compact unit and a tire repair kit can save you a lot of grief when in the field and a long way from help. Cell phones rarely work where we go and unless you do not have a buddy to go back for help, you are SOL.

We seem to have tire problems because we haul heavy loads over mountain roads and we use ATVs and UTVs for hunting and exploring. No Spare on the ATVs can make for a long walk, so we carry flat repair kits and some sort of a portable air compressor with us.

We have tried and still use several types of Hand Operated Pumps, but prefer the powered type. Usually that means 12 Volt DC powered ones. Some of these (usually the cheap ones) are not worth the cost of the box it came in. So, our first portable air compressor review is going to be on a 12 volt pump.

Another option would be the 120 volt AC compressor in the small size and use a Power Inverter to convert 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC to power the unit. Links to these items are below.
