GRMS Radios Make Life Easier and Safer For the Hunter!

Good communication equipment such as GRMS radios can be just as important as your knives while bow hunting. In fact, should you have an accident or some other emergency occur, your communication with the hunters in your party or other people in the area could save a life, maybe yours.

As the new GRMS radios communication equipment is made available and better radio frequencies are allowed by our mutual UNCLE, we see prices start out very high and slowly come down to the affordable range.

Remember when a 1 to 3 channel CB radio cost over $100 in the 60's. Now, very good ones with sideband are about that price.
We started out with CB's, then went to the FRS (2 mile range if conditions are right), and now we use the GMRS radios (5 mile range if conditions are right).

These are some of the radios that we use.

The CB walkie-talkie style works great, but they are heavy and require lots of batteries. The FRS and GMRS radios are much smaller, use a higher frequency (needs a shorter antenna), have many more channels, and are not nearly as hoggish on battery use as the CB style.

The cost of a pair of these newer radios is now down well below what a good hunting knife would cost, so what are you waiting for? We recommend getting GRMS radios models that allows for the use of headphones and VOX (voice activated transmission). That way, the game is not spooked by someone trying to contact you and you can use the unit hands free.

None of these radios will work to the maximum range in canyons and in thick forest, but they are certainly better than yelling should you need to contact a member of your group or call for help in an emergency. GRMS radios or similar radios could be much more valuable thanyour knives in that case.
