Large Multiple Use Camping Equipment

Tow Vehicle

Most likely the largest camping equipment item is the vehicle that gets you and all of your equipment to the hunting spot, and is probably the most expensive piece of camping equipment. It is expected to serve us many years and in some cases it may be a once in a lifetime investment.

That vehicle is most likely a Motor Home, SUV, or Pickup truck and if it is not a motor home, it will usually serve as a multipurpose vehicle (commuter, family hauler, recreation, and Sunday go to meeting transportation). I have several years under my belt and can remember my first "new" vehicle costing $2,500. Today I could spend ten times that and have a "mid-priced" model.

It only makes sense to shop around and get the most bang for your bucks. We have found a place that has a lot of information on buying both new and used vehicles and have been chosen as the #1Car Buying Site by many well known magazines and search engines. Please take a look and use their many aids in choosing what is probably the most expensive piece of camping equipment that you will own.

Since choice is good and there is more than one way to skin a cat or a buck and bull, we found another excellent way to shop for your new or different vehicle. You can Get Free Price Quotes Here. Compare prices and see where you can get the best deal for your situation.

These large camping equipment items are quite expensive so you may want to have an extended warranty on them. For a FREE extended auto warranty quote. Try these folks.

Be sure to check with the local repair shops to find out if they accept a particular brand of extended warranty before you purchase one. Some shops will not accept certain ones.

We currently use a Chevy CrewCab with a 454 engine, but it will probably be replaced with a Ford 6 Liter Diesel and their automatic transmission. We have researched the Big 3 of Pickup trucks and the new Ford automatic diesel has everyone beat on power, comfort, dependability of components and bang for the bucks. We have owned and driven many vehicles in the last 20 years and the power train in the Ford is the best ever (at least at this point).

If you have a small camper and a smaller tow vehicle would suit your needs, say like a Jeep of some sort, then we found the perfect place to buy or sell a Jeep!

You can not beat their advertising cost.

UPDATE-- The 6.0's remain out of our price range so we purchased a older 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel with only 53K miles.
We decided to up the power of our expensive piece of camping equipment with a programmer and also decided to get the recommended guages (Pyrometer and Trans Temp).

The F350 with the 7.3 Power Stroke will need to last us for a long time, so we did days of research reading material about how to get the best mileage and longevity from the big diesels. In the end it was clear that two things would be the most helpful in achieving that goal.

The first thing was to switch to synthetic oil, but not just any synthetic. It had to be the best and that is proven to be AMSOIL. Pages and pages of information and proof can be found at Click2Synthetic.com and you will be convinced that this is the best synthetic to use for ALL of you motorized equipment.

The second thing to do is to make use of a By-pass Oil Filter System. This allows for the absolute best filtering of your oil and allows the oil to be used for a much longer time. The same oil can be used for hundreds of thousands of miles by proper filtering, oil monitoring, and filter changes. This system will make your high dollar camping equipment last longer and it actually pays for itself many times over.

While researching for our improvements, we found a great source for accessories that offers Money Saving Coupons!

With todays shipping cost, that can mean big savings when accessorising you expensive camping equipment. Take a look and see if they can help you.

RV or Camper

The next largest and most expensive piece of bow hunting equipment would be your shelter. The aluminum or fiberglass teepee has spoiled these old bones and we would never go back to the "old days" (our younger years) of sleeping on the ground or in the camper shell on our pickup.

It would really be difficult to buy a camper or motorhome on the internet, so we do not recommend any place to do so unless you are in driving distance of Layton, Utah which is near Salt Lake City. That dealer is Blaine Jensen RV Center. We have dealt with them several times and found the drive well worth our time.

If you do want to try to buy a RV of some type using the internet you may want to try this site. While they may not be thought of as "the place" to shop for a RV, there are bargains to be had when this place has RVs available. The place to look would be here with a motto of If you broke it, lost it, need it cheap or just can't find it anywhere else, find it here!

If you do decide to purchase a camper or RV, we suggest that you also purchase one or more books on making repairs to your camping equipment. Break downs seem to usually come while well away from help or after hours.

It is a good policy to have on hand something to help you get back on the road or get your failed component back in service so that you can either continue your trip or make it to the repair center.

We found just the place that offers Great books about RVing for up to 50% off!
Let us know what you think of this resource for your camping equipment.

Although we do not have any deals to offer for buying a camper other than the places above, we do have several suggestions for features to look for in a camper or motor home for your second most expensive piece of camping equipment.
  1. RV whether a camper or a motor home, it is very expensive to repair at home, but on the road, it's horrendous. The repair places seem to gouge the traveler. We recommend trying these folks for great prices on insurance for these situations and they also have other offers for your traveling needs when not bow hunting. RV Emergency Road Service - More benefits, more coverage is their motto. Just take a look.
  2. Purchase the largest camper that you can afford and that can be taken to your hunting spot (a 34 footer may not fit the mountain roads).
  3. Have the axles "flipped" to give you more off-road (off-pavement) ability and keep from ripping the plumbing off on potholes.
  4. Try to get a model with the holding tanks insulated or in the heated area of the "belly" to prevent freezing.
  5. Even if the tanks are insulated or heated, you will need to insulate the dump valves and the piping to them.
  6. We like the room that slide-outs provide, but be aware that in snow, the slide-out must be cleaned and the ice removed before traveling.
  7. If possible, get a model with a solar panel or add one as quickly as possible. Generators are great but very noisy.
  8. Since this purchase is probably a multipurpose piece of camping equipment, you should also consider the other uses and the needs associated with that use.
  9. If you are getting a camper longer than 27 feet, please consider a fifth wheel for safety. They are much easier to pull.

If you already have a camper or RV, you no doubt will eventually need parts or additional accessories for it. We would like to suggest that you at look at this company that offers a wide range of components and camping equipment for you and some at special clearance prices or internet specials. Tents

If you do not go the Tin or Fiberglass teepee route, then you are probably using a tent of some sort. We do have several recommendation for tents. The companies that we are going to recommend actually offer a great many items classified as camping equipment.

Our first recommendation is a great place for many things related to the outdoors and their Quality Camping Gear is a good page to start. From there, use their search engine for great prices, guarantees, and terms.

This company is well known for it's hunting and fishing gear, but did you know that they have a great selection of camping equipment? Take a look and you are sure to spend several minutes enjoying their colorful and easy to use site. It is hard to visit them without seeing a "must have" item. If you ever have a chance to visit one of their "brick and mortar" stores, take it, even if it means a couple of hours drive. You will always remember the trip and never regret taking the time.

Another household name in outdoor gear is not really known for tents, but we have seen some real deals there on occasion. Their web site also features many things that some of their store do not stock. Their Sporting Goods department warrants checking out. You may be surprised at the guarantee and the prices available on line for you camping equipment needs.

In order to better server those who use our site, we have a SEARCH feature. This allows you to find information on our site if it is there. In addition, this search feature also allows you to search the entire Web to find the information you need. Just select the area that you want to explore (this site or the Web).
