Good Binoculars Are Necessary Hunter Optics!

While binoculars are not nearly as important as your knives and saws, they are a necessity as far as this old bow hunter is concerned. Without decent optics, it would be impossible to tell if the animal in the valley or half way up the mountain was worth the time to pull a sneak or set up a blind.

I also have trouble recognizing land marks from different mountain peaks at different angles. A good quality pair of binoculars are essential to my hunting style.

We want to share a tip that we learned many years ago. A good pair of binoculars do not have to cost a fortune. The lesser price pair often can be just as beneficial as the mega $$$$$ ones.

The secret is to purchase them in person and to actually look into several pairs of the same brand and model. We keep the expensive models in camp or in our vehicles.

We use the inexpensive units that we have hand picked to carry while hunting. That way, if we should take a tumble or drop the optics from a tree stand, we have not lost much. When we find a sale (less than $20) on binoculars, we buy several pairs for keeping in stock.

We have managed to break several sets of optics over the years and the sum total of our loss does not exceed the cost of a single pair of the high quality binoculars.

Quality binoculars and other optics can far exceed the cost of our knives and saws. In some cases, the optics can cost almost as much as our bows fully rigged, so don't take a chance on disaster.

We feel very comfortable in ordering quality optics on line, but we DO NOT recommend ordering the inexpensive optics, you should only purchase the inexpensive binoculars in person and only if the merchant will let you look through each unit before making a decision.

We like to pick something in small print at least 50 to 100 feet away in the store and see if the inexpensive binoculars or scopes will focus correctly and allow the print to be read.

If the units will do this, then they will be adequate for hunting. Again, try several units until you find one or more that will do this. We have tested as many and 10 units in a store to find the ones that will actually focus correctly.

Just because the units are the same make and model, does not mean that they will focus correctly. Try it, you will save a bunch of money and get some disposable optics at the same time.

The sites below are great places to find quality binoculars and other optics, just beware of the inexpensive no name brand models, you may not get what you expect and we would not like you to be unhappy with us for recommending these sources. That is why we shared the tip on how to buy inexpensive binoculars and other optics.

I personally use the same procedure to check out spotting scopes and rifle scopes that I do for binoculars. On the high end units when I find something I like, I check out the internet for the best price on that model. If the price is very near the local cost, then I purchase locally since I can look before I buy.
